Hi there,
from what i have heard it was used as an alternative to Anti Aircraft guns. they used to drive the tanks up there and then fire at that angle at the incoming aircraft. i have also heard stories that they were used as a training facility for the drivers to make sure that they can drive their tanks on these gradients, though i cant confirm either of these these are the stories that i have heard
I've lived hear in Hassocksmost of my life and love the place.
I'm interested in the history of the surrounding area and was wondering if anyone knows how the Tank Tracks got their name?
Now I assume, and have heard rumors, that it was some kind of testing facility during the war(s). Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks
